p52 month 09 : diffuse

For our ninth month we are exploring diffuse light which is generally soft and multi-directional. Where hard light was small compared to the subject, resulting in dark shadows, soft light is large compared to the subject and results in subtle to no shadows. Overcast days, open shade, or the sky (as opposed to the sun itself) are examples of diffuse light sources. The soft nature of diffuse light can make an image feel very flat, but it can also add texture and mood. Some photographers find this light ideal especially for flattering portraits.
